AMTDA President's Corner -
7th Edition
Did you know Henry Ford could not read blueprints, or that he tested his first car engine in his kitchen sink? Join AMTDA President Pete Borden as he discusses his recent trip to the Henry Ford Museum in Michigan as well as some interesting facts about this American visionary.
James D. Kreager, formerly of Kreager Machine Tools in Sunnyvale, CA, passed away at the age of 79. Jim was in the business for more than 50 years and worked for Sundstrand Machine Tools before buying the Northern California branch of Tornquist Machinery in 1980. This allowed Jim and his wife Pat to return to California where he was able to spend time with his family, close to where he was raised in Compton.
His long-time business associate and friend Lynne Anderson from ABLE Machine Tools, commented, “Jim became a mentor to me and my partner Al Barile when we began our distributor network for Niigata. When Jim was your friend, you could ask for nothing better. Two memorable characteristics: he was a stickler for details and a perfectionist. He was very loyal and continued to help us when we started our company 25 years ago. Jim and Pat were one of those “perfect” couples. They represented what is good in our business; they worked hard but even with success, never forgot their beginnings or their friends. Jim was certainly a man of great faith.”
Peter Borden, AMTDA President, added, “Jim was well known in the industry for his great technical acumen and a terrific enthusiasm for the industry. He served as a member of the AMTDA Board of Directors most recently from 2003-2005. We shall miss him.”
